Harford Community College

2016 - 2017 Credit Catalog

Message from the President

Dear Students, Colleagues, and Friends,

Welcome to Harford Community College! As you will see in this catalog, the College offers more than 80 programs of study leading to completion of an associate degree or certificate. HCC offers all the resources you need -- including friendly, knowledgeable employees -- to help guide you along the way.

Since joining Harford as its ninth President in August, I have been very impressed by the professional and hard-working staff and faculty and their culture of excellence. I am honored to join this dedicated college community and am looking forward to working with them to advance the mission of the College. Together, we will develop new and innovative projects to support student achievement, our number one goal.

I am pleased to report that many exciting things are planned for the future. The renovation and expansion of Edgewood Hall, which will include a 6,000 square foot addition with state-of-the-art laboratory space for new Continuing Education and Training classes, is expected to be completed by January 2017. Other projects include the design of a new Cyber Institute to be located at the University Center in Aberdeen and the relocation of the Learning Center to the Library.

To help students achieve their academic goals by completing a degree or certificate, programs such as My College Success Network have been established. Although designed to empower and support African American students, any HCC student can take advantage of the academic coaching, student success advising, and other services offered through the program. At HCC, we offer many programs to help with engagement, retention and completion of our students. My advice to students is to seek help if you need it. Don't be afraid to ask. We are here to help you succeed.

Students do not need to leave Harford County to pursue their educational goals. Complete your first two years at HCC and then transfer to a four-year institution. With the Towson University Northeastern Maryland building located across the road, completing a bachelor's degree in specific programs is possible right on the HCC campus.

With financial support from the State of Maryland and Harford County, the cost of attending HCC is very reasonable. Graduating with little to no student debt is a smart choice. You can use the money you save to help pay for other expenses such as textbooks, food, and transportation. In addition, improved articulation programs are in place to make it easy to transfer to a four-year institution.

I encourage you to take advantage of the many available opportunities as you begin this new journey. In addition to attending classes, join a student organization, participate in service-learning, support an athletic team, watch a performance, listen to a speaker -- there are so many ways to enhance your experience as a Harford Community College student.

You can have it all at HCC!

Sincerely,

Dr. Phillips
Dianna G. Phillips, Ph.D.
