Harford Community College

2017 - 2018 Credit Catalog

Message from the President

Dr. Phillips

Dear Students, Colleagues, and Friends,

Welcome to Harford Community College! As you will see in this catalog, the College offers more than 80 programs of study leading to completion of an associate degree or certificate. HCC offers all the resources you need – including friendly, knowledgeable, dedicated employees and faculty – to help guide you along the way.

It's with great pride and excitement that we announce that this year marks our 60th anniversary as an anchor institution in Harford County. We are committed to serving our community with programs, courses, services, and events that provide successful transfer, career preparation & workforce entry, college readiness through remediation, and personal enrichment and community programming. We are planning many fun events to commemorate the occasion. Check the HCC website for information on specific events, dates, and times.

To help our students achieve their academic goals, programs such as My College Success Network have been established. Although designed to empower and support African American students, any HCC student can take advantage of the academic coaching, student success advising, and other services offered through the program. At Harford, we offer many programs to help with student engagement, retention and completion. My advice to students is to seek help if you need it. Don't be afraid to ask. We are here to help you succeed.

Students do not need to leave Harford County to pursue their educational goals. Complete your first two years at Harford and then transfer to a four-year institution. With the Towson University Northeastern Maryland building located across the road, completing a bachelor's degree in specific programs is possible right on the HCC campus.

With financial support from the State of Maryland and Harford County, the cost of attending Harford is very reasonable. Graduating with little to no student debt is a smart choice. You can use the money you save to help pay for other expenses such as textbooks, food, and transportation. In addition, improved articulation programs are in place to make it easy to transfer to a four-year institution.

I encourage you to take advantage of the many available opportunities as you begin this new journey. In addition to attending classes – get involved! Consider joining a student organization, participating in service-learning, supporting an athletic team, watching a performance, listening to a speaker – there are so many ways to enhance your experience as a Harford Community College student. It's your life and education – dive in, learn about your world, and about yourself.

You can have it all at HCC!

Sincerely,
Dr. Phillips
