Dear Students, Colleagues, and Friends,
Welcome to Harford Community College! As you will see in this
catalog, the College offers more than 80 programs of study leading to
completion of an associate degree or certificate. HCC offers all the
resources you need – including friendly, knowledgeable, dedicated employees
and faculty – to help guide you along the way.
We are committed to serving our community with programs, courses,
services, and events that provide successful transfer, career preparation
and workforce entry, college readiness, and personal enrichment and
community programming.
This year, Harford Community College joined Achieving the Dream
(ATD), a network of more than 220 colleges in 39 states dedicated to
improving student success. As an institution within the network, Harford
Community College will implement cutting-edge programs, work with ATD
coaches to build institutional capacity, and connect with peers to share
information. Through its membership, the College plans to improve results
for all students, especially low-income students and students of color.
To help our students achieve their academic goals, we have
established programs such as the My College Success Network. Although
designed to empower and support African American students, any HCC student
may take advantage of the academic coaching, student success advising, and
other services offered through the program. At Harford Community College, we
offer many programs to help with student engagement, retention and
completion. My advice to students is to seek help if you need it. Don't be
afraid to ask—we are here to help you succeed!
Students do not need to leave Harford County to pursue their
educational goals. Complete your first two years at Harford Community
College, then transfer to a four-year institution. Improved articulation
programs are in place to make it easy to transfer to a four-year
institution. And, with the Towson University Northeastern Maryland building
located across the road, completing a bachelor's degree in specific programs
has never been more convenient.
With financial support from the State of Maryland and Harford
County, the cost of attending Harford is very reasonable. Graduating with
little to no student debt is a smart choice. You can use the money you save
to help pay for other expenses such as textbooks, food, and transportation.
I encourage you to take advantage of the many available
opportunities as you begin this new journey. In addition to attending
classes, get involved! Consider joining a student organization,
participating in service-learning, supporting an athletic team, watching a
performance, listening to a speaker – there are so many ways to enhance your
experience as a Harford Community College student. It's your life and
education – dive in, learn about your world, and about yourself.
The bottom line is you don't have to leave home to have a rich
collegiate experience. Harford Community College provides a broad range of
student services, academic support, cultural enrichment, athletics, and
student life similar to those offered at four-year colleges.
As an HCC student, you will have the opportunity to challenge
yourself, explore different fields, meet new people and make new friends.
Discover, imagine, innovate – embrace the chance to enrich your
life as you pursue educational excellence at Harford Community College.
Sincerely,
Dianna G. Phillips, Ph.D.
