Harford Community College
has served as an anchor institution in Harford County since its
inception in 1957. We are a mid-sized, comprehensive college
committed to serving our community through high caliber
educational offerings and cultural events.
As we celebrated our 60th
anniversary, Harford Community College embarked on a journey
to examine and reset its foundation. To that end, we recently
became an Achieving the Dream institution, are working with
Campus Works to redesign our student experience, and are actively
building a strong data infrastructure—all in preparation for a
2019 strategic plan that will launch Harford Community College
into the future.
Our beautiful, 352-acre campus is located in the
heart of vibrant Harford County, Maryland, and conveniently
located near Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC;
and Wilmington, DE. We offer more than 70 affordable degree and
certificate programs to nearly 2,000 full-time and 7,500
part-time students, as well as a wide variety of noncredit
continuing education courses to nearly 11,000 students per year.

Position Highlights: This is a 10-month,
tenure-track faculty position scheduled to begin August 2018.
This person will join a
team of 26 dynamic, innovative and eager faculty team members
engaged in making that difference for students.
The faculty member is primarily responsible for
teaching a range of lecture and lab courses including cell and
molecular biology, general biology, introductory biology, and
either anatomy and physiology or microbiology.
A master's degree in biology or a closely-related field, a demonstrated
minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in biology, and a minimum of
one year or equivalent full-time teaching experience, preferably
at a community college, are required. A doctorate is preferred.
Applicants must have experience developing instructional
material; demonstrated ability to teach a range of biology
lecture and lab courses; demonstrated understanding of and
experience in assessment of student learning; experience using
evidence-based pedagogies in the teaching of biology to
continually improve student learning; and demonstrated
competency with current technology and learning management
systems. Preference will be given to candidates with experience
conducting student-based research either embedded in laboratory
courses or individually mentored student research projects.
The ability to conduct laboratory exercises and assist students
with laboratory skills is required.
The ability to interact
with students and potential students outside the classroom
environment in discipline-related activities, effective
communication skills, and a well-articulated understanding of
the role of community colleges and their students are required.
Candidates will be asked to
validate teaching experience. A teaching demonstration will be
part of the interview process.
SALARY WILL BE COMMENSURATE WITH EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND
offer of employment at Harford Community College is contingent
upon the results of a mandatory background screening.
