ABOUT HCC

The Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Center provides a supportive and caring environment for nursing students to learn, practice, and demonstrate nursing skills.  Nursing students learn psychomotor, critical thinking and physical assessment skills necessary for experience in a “live” clinical area. The opportunity to become familiar with equipment and techniques in a non-threatening environment that simulates the clinical nursing environment is a critical component of skill acquisition.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

HCC is seeking experienced nurses to support students in the College's Nursing Skills Lab & Simulation Center.  This is not a teaching position.  The lab assistant assists students in their practice of psychomotor skills; performs preparation and clean-up for scheduled lab classes; assists nursing faculty with scheduled labs and simulation labs as needed; runs the computerized manikin for simulation; establishes and maintains student lab files; and maintains lab and equipment including laundry and cleaning of manikins and simulators.  The lab assistant also assists with semi-annual and annual equipment and supplies inventory, and performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

This position is scheduled to work as-needed; hours may be day, evening, or weekend, between 0 and 5 days in a month based on the needs of the department.  Work schedule is determined by the supervisor.

The hours of part-time, as-needed employees are limited to a total of less than 500 hours in each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) and three years of adult medical/surgical acute care nursing experience required, as well as proficiency in a Windows-based PC environment.  The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and extended periods of walking and standing.  Previous experience working with students preferred.  Flexibility in scheduling is required.
