Student Orientation Leader

RESPONSIBILITIES: Student Orientation Leaders work individually or in teams to facilitate orientation for 10 to 15 students each day of the orientation program.  Leaders learn about HCC's services and programs and relay that knowledge to others; attend training; lead orientation activities; engender enthusiasm for the College; serve as role models and peer resources for incoming students during August Orientation and the fall semester; and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

Work schedule is as follows:  All-day training sessions will be held from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 1; and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, August 4, 5 and 6, and Monday, August 11.  Orientation sessions will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 7; Friday, August 8, Tuesday, August 12; and Wednesday, August 13.  Leaders are required to meet with assigned students regularly throughout the fall semester.  Leaders are required to attend monthly meetings from 2 to 3 p.m. on the first Friday of each month (September 5, October 3, November 7, and December 5) throughout the fall semester and participate in other dates as assigned.




Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, have a minimum of 12 college credits (preferably earned at HCC) with a minimum GPA of 2.0*, and be enrolled in Fall 2014 at HCC.  Effective oral and written communication skills and knowledge of HCC policies and services are also required.  Past student leadership experience is preferred. 

*Candidates will be required to sign a FERPA release permitting access to educational records to confirm required GPA and credits as well as judicial standing.
