RESPONSIBILITIES: The Nursing Student Success and Retention Specialist (NSSRS) provides subject-specific mentoring and tutoring to nursing students, both individually and in group sessions.  Students receive help with academic skills, such as study habits, reading, test taking, time management, dosage calculation, and writing projects; and/or one-to-one assistance in the clinical setting if they are not meeting clinical performance standards. 

Duties include, but are not limited to, working closely with faculty and nursing students to develop a plan for student success which may include:  providing subject-specific mentoring and assisting with academic skills; providing instruction to assist students in the application of theory to clinical practice in the campus Nursing Skills Laboratory and developing and implementing appropriate clinical simulation scenarios for the campus laboratory to support the remediation of students referred by the nursing faculty; providing one-to-one assistance in the clinical setting for students who need support in achieving clinical performance outcomes; and coordinating nursing academic support services and products to achieve identified student outcomes. 

The NSSRS coordinates NCLEX preparation and nursing program NCLEX outcomes reporting; develops, coordinates and revises Nursing Program Success activities; serves as a liaison with HCC student support services to address nursing students learning needs; provides review, instruction, and support for NCLEX-RN test preparation and monitors test success; and performs other duties assigned.

This is an exempt, professional staff position. 
REQUIREMENTS:

A master's degree in nursing and three to five years of full-time experience in clinical practice are required, including clinical expertise in foundations of nursing and medical/surgical nursing.  Experience as a nurse educator preferred.  Applicants must be licensed or have the ability to be licensed in Maryland; be proficient in a Windows-based computer environment; have knowledge of health care-related technology including Meditech and Blackboard; and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Experience in low-fidelity and high-fidelity simulation preferred.
